As per instructions from Embassy Of India, Washington DC, Tatkal applications by post can not be accepted at any BLS Application Center. Any postal applications requesting Tatkal service will be sent back using prepaid supplied with application. Applicants must submit their Tatkal application in person only. Submission time for Tatkal applications are from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM. All Tatkal Applications require approval from the local Embassy or Consulate General. If you are a green card holder, you must physically show your green card at the local Embassy or Consulate General to receive a Tatkal approval.
This Express Service is a provision for issuance of passport under situation of emergency, the nature of emergency must be proved to satisfy the consular officer.
This service is not available for passport applications/documents sent by mail, for expired passports and for expired visa status

No Tatkal Passport Service is available from Consulate General of India Atlanta. Applicants from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands - can apply for ‘Tatkal Passport Service’ through Embassy of India Washington.
For Chicago Jurisdiction : Applicant need to visit Chicago Consulate for all Tatkal application between 0930 to 12:30 PM and Tatkal application is not accepted by mail in BLS Chicago.

Applicants holding Indian passports with the following categories of US visas: C, AS6, AS7, AS8 and CO8 are NOT eligible to apply for re-issue or any service on passports.
For B1/B2 visa holders, Consulate will issue only Short Validity Passports.
Applicant need to visit the SFO Consulate for approval of Tatkal service any working day of the Consulate between 09:00 to 12:00 PM. Tatkal applications will not be accepted at BLS in person or by post without prior approval of the Consulate.

An ordinary passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue. It may please be noted that the Passport Issuing Authority, can issue passports even for a shorter duration. Minors are issued passports for 5 years or up to attaining 18 years, whichever is earlier.
It is an offence under the Passport Act 1967 to furnish false information in the application. Passport facilities would be denied on grounds of suppression of material information, submission of incorrect particulars, willful damage/loss of passport or for unauthorized change/tampering. The Passport can be impounded or revoked for violation of one or more of the provisions of the Passport Act.
It is an offence to hold more than one valid passport at a time.
Your Indian passport establishes your identity in a foreign country. Hence it is important to have it re-issued before the date of expiry. The passport can be submitted for re-issue up to one year before the date of expiry
Your Indian passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in your own custody or in the custody of a person duly authorized by you. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Mission and to the local police.
We suggest that you keep a photocopy of your Indian passport in a safe place, separate from the passport. The photocopy should include the pages showing the personal particulars, validity of the passport, date/place of issue, also the stamp of departure from India, entry in U.S.A and the visa issued by the U.S.A authorities
All minors are required to have a separate passport. Old practice of including a child’s name in the Passport of either of the parents has been discontinued.
On acquiring U.S nationality, the Indian passport should be submitted to the nearest Embassy of India/Consulate General(s) of India for cancellation. It is returned to the holder after cancellation. Use of Indian passport for travel to India after acquiring any foreign nationality is an offence and invites penalty. After acquiring U.S.A citizenship, you do not remain an Indian citizen and need an Indian visa to travel to India.
B1/B2 category visa can not be accepted for passport renewal without consulate approval.
Applicants willing to apply for Tatkal has to apply in washington DC applicable for atlanta juridiction applicants only.
C visa applicants are not eligible to apply for passport service without consulate approval.
AS6, AS7 and AS8 visa category can not be accepted for passport renewal
IR 6 category - Applicant has to add spouse name in his passport.

Re-issued/New passport would bear your current USA address for which satisfactory verifiable documentary proof is submitted by you.

The passport sized photo(s) which are glued to your application, as well as any additional loose photos sent with application, must follow the strict guidelines mentioned below. If the photo submitted with your application does not meet the requirements mentioned herein, the application will remain on hold in our office for a maximum of 21 calendar days, and will not be processed until acceptable photos are sent to our application center. An email will be sent to the email listed on your order form requesting additional photographs if necessary.
Photo must be professional grade, a photo printed from a home/personal printer will be rejected.
The image should be 2 inches by 2 inches (2”x2”).
The image must have adequate brightness and contrast.
The skin tone should be natural. In case of over-exposure or under-exposure of the photo, the skin is either too dark or too light, photo will not be acceptable.
It should show a close up of the head and (partial) shoulders.
The image should be straight looking, centered with neutral expression.
Face should be in sharp focus and clear with no ink marks/creases/lines.
The face (from forehead edge to bottom of chin) should be 70 to 80% of the photo or one inch height.
The eyes must be open and no hair obscuring the face.
Prescription glasses if worn should be clear and thin framed and should not have flash reflection or obscure the eyes.
Head coverings, hair, head-dress or facial ornaments should not obscure the face.
The photo must have plain light and white background.
There must be no other people or object in the photo.
The lighting must be uniform with no shadows on the face or behind.
Red eye photos are not allowed.
No lines are allowed.

3. A new passport would could be obtained in 30 days from the date of submission of the applications.
