  • Above what age adult passport is issued ?

  • What is validity of passport?


    • A new Passport is required when the old passport has completed its 10 year validity (for Adults: on and above 15 years) and 5 year validity (for Minors: under 15 years) from the date of issue or where a new booklet is necessitated on account of change in basic particulars like name, appearance, seeking amendment in date of birth etc. or when all the pages have been used.
  • Till what time Passport could be submitted for reissue before the date of expiry?


    • The passport can be submitted for re-issue up to one year before the date of expiry.
  • Can my child (minor) travel on my Passport?


    • All minors are required to have a separate passport. Old practice of including a child’s name in the Passport of either of the parents has been discontinued.

    Whose declaration is required in case of issue of passport of a minor?


    • Application for issue of passport to minor requires an additional declaration from both the parents

    Can I retain my Indian passport for travel after acquiring my U.S.A Nationality?


    • On acquiring U.S.A nationality, the Indian passport should be submitted to the nearest Indian Embassy of India/Consulate for cancellation. It is returned to the holder after cancellation. Use of Indian Passport for travel to India after acquiring any foreign nationality is an offence and invites penalty. After acquiring US citizenship, you do not remain an Indian citizen and need Indian visa to visit India.

    What is the difference between Re-issue and Renewal of a Passport. ?


    • Passports are Re-issued after the expiry of their 10-year validity period. In case you were issued a Short Validity Passport (i.e. a passport with validity of less than 10 years), it can be renewed to extend its validity for a period up to 10 years from the date of issue. The Passport number does not change as the booklet remains the same. Only an entry is made in the passport extending its validity date. In the case of Re-issue of Passport, a new booklet is issued and your Passport number changes. A Passport which has completed its life of 10 years cannot be renewed.

    What if I make a mistake in passport application form?


    • After filling the online passport application form, if you realize that the information is incorrect on the form printout (e.g. spelling mistakes, incorrect date of birth, etc), you have to fill the form again with the correct details and take a printout of this corrected passport form.

    Are there any Passport Service for Refugees?


    • "refuge" in a foreign country in view of excellent political, economic, social and financial opportunities available to citizens in India. Therefore, cases which have been or are being considered for Permanent Residency in U.S.A on political asylum or humanitarian/compassionate considerations (known as CR and HC class of cases) will not be given Indian Passport. However, such persons, for the purposes of returning to India, may apply for Travel Document through U.S.A Border protection (CBP). They will be issued an Emergency Certificate (EC) which will be handed over to them at the time of departure from USA at the airport by an officer of the CBP. The EC is good for one-way travel from U.S.A to India. Please note that EC is not a Passport and is not valid for normal international travel. Also please note that an EC will have a note written thereon that it is being given due to the fact that holder had taken refuge in U.S.A . In India also, Passport facility may be denied to such a person, depending on the circumstances in which he was given the EC.

    Is my passport fee refundable in case I choose to back out from my application?


    • Fee once paid is not refundable.

    What are the documents required for re-issue of Passport After 10 years?


    • For Re-issue of Passport, you will need following documents:

      1.Filled In, Printed out and completed; Online Application form

      2.Printed and filled Nationality Verification Form/ Personal Particulars form.

      3. Three recent passport-sized colored photographs with white background (Photo Specifications). Glue one photo in the space provided on the first page of the online application form, another on the nationality verification form &staple the rest on the last page of the application form. Polaroid prints or computer prints will not be accepted.

      4. Old passport in original. In case old passport is 5 years old or less, please send the previous passport as well.

      5. Photocopies of first 5 pages and last two pages of your current passport.

      6. Additional Booklet, if any (in original).

      7. Notarized Color photocopy of current valid US visa on passport or Green card or Employment Authorization Card or I- 797 approval notice documents.Student visa Status holders must enclose I-20 Document as well. If your visa has expired and/or or you have the receipt notice for extension of your visa then: NYC, SFO & HOU Jurisdiction Applicants - must provide a notarized no status affidavit with photocopy of the valid passport and the green card of two witnesses duly notarized + 7 Copies of Nationality Verification Form (Given in Point 2 above) are required and each copy must have an original photograph affixed on it. WAS/ATL/HOU/CHI Jurisdiction Applicants - must visit the consulate in person for an interview before applying at the passport application center.

      8. In case the current passport does not have Spouse’s name, a notarized photocopy of the marriage certificate is mandatory if your status has been filled as married in the application form. Some consulates may ask for the copy of the passport / US ID of the spouse, if you enclose it along with your application it will help process the case faster. Women Applicants must include the notarized affidavit for change in name from maiden to married.

      9. Notarized Photocopy of a residential proof of the applicant (Driver’s License, State ID, Utility bill such as gas, electric or water or Rental Lease agreement or Home Mortgage bill. Other bills or documents will NOT be accepted as proof. For applicants above 60 years of age who do not have any such documents, a copy of their State ID may be enclosed. In case documents are being sent by mail, please notarize residential proof photocopy.

      10. If passport is expired less than 6 months a self-explanation letter explaining “why the passport was not renewed in time” is required. If Passport has expired for more than 6 months a Notarized Affidavit is a must + 7 more copies of Nationality Verification Form (Given in Point 2 above) are required and each copy must have an original photograph affixed on it. Houston Jurisdiction applicants must also submit a 4 Points Affidavit in such case.

      11. For cases in which the applicant’s appearance has significantly changed from the appearance in the current passport, an affidavit form for change of appearance is required. Please glue a current photo to the form and have it notarized.

      12. Print this checklist, tick and arrange your application accordingly before you are ready to submit in person at the application center or sending it by post.

      13. Applicable Fee (If you are sending application by post please note we do not accept personal checks, Only Money order or Bankers checks in Name of “BLS International USA are accepted.

    What are the documents required for Duplicate Passport in lieu of Lost/Damaged Passport?


    • In case you have lost or damaged your passport, you will need to submit following document in addition to the documents required in a normal re-issue case:

      1. Filled In, Printed out and completed; Online Application form.

      2. 7 Copies of Printed and filled Nationality Verification Form / Personal Particulars form

      3. Ten recent passport-sized colored photographs with white background (Photo Specifications). Glue one photo in the space provided on the first page of the online application form, 7 on the nationality verification form & please staple the rest on the last page of the application form. Polaroid prints or computer prints will not be accepted.

      4. In case of lost/damaged passports Please notarize Pg. 3 of the application form with the applicant’s Signature OR Thumb print (The right thumb impression for females and left thumb impression for males) in Sr. No. 26.

      5. Except in case of lost passport: Old passport in original. In case old passport is 5 years old or less, please send the previous passport as well.

      6. Photocopies of first 5 pages and last two pages of your current passport.

      A)In case of lost passport if photocopy of the passport is not available please submit the notarized photocopy of Indian birth certificate, Matriculation/Higher Secondary/School Leaving Certificate or Indian Photo Identify Card – including Driving License, Ration Card, Election Commission ID, PAN card, or any other document containing photo and indicating Indian nationality of the applicant.

      7. Notarized Color photocopy of current valid US visa on passport or Green card or Employment Authorization Card or I- 797 approval notice documents.     What are the requirements for new passport for child born in USA to parents holding Indian Passports?


    • In such cases, the child can acquire U.S citizenship due to his place of birth being U.S.A. In case parents wish to obtain Indian passport for the child, birth registration with the Indian Mission is required before applying for passport for the newborn. Both the parents should sign a declaration of non-acquisition of an U.S nationality by the child and consent to issue of Indian passport to the child. You will need to submit Application Form duly filled in and countersigned by both parents. Copy of the record of landing or immigration document/PR card of the child and the parents would be needed. Also submit a copy of the birth certificate of the child showing the names of the parents. Personal appearance of the child may be required in some cases. Please also see the requirement for a normal Passport Re-issue case given above.

    What is the procedure for a change of name or any other detail in my Passport ?


    • In all other cases of change of name/surname in the passport, inserting advertisements in two English newspapers – one in local area where the applicant is residing and another in the area of permanent residence in India – is compulsory. After 30 days of the advertisements, following documents should be submitted: 1. Application form for new passport, duly filled in.

      2. Old passport with a photocopy.

      3. Three identical, recent color photographs (3.5 cm X 3.5 cm), showing frontal view of full face against a light background.

      4. Declaration for non-acquisition of foreign nationality.

      5. Sworn notarized Affidavit by the applicant about change in name.

      6. Original clippings of advertisements inserted in the newspapers.

      7. Original landing record or immigration paper with a photocopy.

      A new passport will be issued to the applicant giving his new name.

    What comes under miscellaneous passport services ?


    • It includes Change in address, change in date/place of birth, etc.

    What additional documents are required in case the passport has expired?


    • For passports expired less than 6 months a self-explanation letter as to why the passport was not renewed in time.

      If passport is expired 6 months but less than 3years, a notarized affidavit along with a self-explanation letter as to why the passport was not reissued after expiry for such a long time.

      If passport is expired greater than 3years 8 copies of the National verification form are required to be attached with the application form in addition to all other required documents.

      For Applicants in Houston - If passport is expired more than 3 years, a 4 point affidavit is also required additionally.
